Tipping Vendors

All tips should be given in cash.  Place them in sealed envelopes with their names on them.  Assign them to a wedding planner or to someone you trust to hand them out just before the vendor leaves.  This way you can base your tip on the job they did for you.  All deserving vendors would love a thank you card.  It is a great reminder of your wedding and let's face it; it'll help them book future clients.

Keep in mind that tipping is optional, if it is not you will be notified.  A tip is not for somone that does their job, but someone that goes up and beyond for you!

Limousine Drivers-several companies have required tips, some have it built in- make sure you find out.  Typically it is 15 to 20% of the limo bill-make sure you give this one at the end of their service.

Valet parking attendants- .50 to $1.00 per car.  You can pre arrange this and have a sign posted to let your guests know gratuity has been taken care of.

Wait staff- If the tip is not on the contract already, 15% to 20% of the total catering is tipped.  Keep in mind, wait staff do the hardest physical labor on your wedding day.

Bartenders- 15% of the total liquor bill, presented to the head bartender or equally among the total number of bartenders who worked the full evening.  Make sure no tips have been added to your contract already.  Also, make sure the bartender will not have any tip jars out so that guests would feel obligated to tip.

Restroom and/or Coatroom attendants- .50 to $1.00 per guest- again, try to pre-arrange.

Makeup artist or Hair stylists-You can tip less if they come to you, but if you go to the salon, then you should tip them 15%.

DJ- If your DJ owns the company then the tip is optional, but if the DJ is and employee of the company then you could tip$50 to $100.  If you have 2 DJ's (DJ&MC), give each person $50 in separate envelopes.  When your guests rave about your reception later, it's the DJ that made sure everyone had fun.

Ceremony or Reception Musicians- $10-15 per person, in one lump sum to the person in charge.

Banquet or catering managers-don't need to be tipped unless they've thrown in extras or saved you a few hundred dollars on your bill.  The tip would be between $30 to $100.

Photographer and Videographer-If these vendors own the company it is optional.  If they are employees, $50.00 goes to the main photographer and they can split it if there is an assistant.

Officiant-Generally you pay your fee and that's it.  If you wish to make a financial contribution to the church, you can do that separately.

Florist - $25 and up (gratuity is not usually required, however, if you feel he/she has done an exceptional job or has provided extra or special services, a tip is a wonderful gesture.)

Wedding Baker - $25.00 (gratuity is not usually required, however, if you feel he/she has done an exceptional job or has provided extra or special services, a tip is a wonderful gesture.)

Wedding coordinator/Room manager/Security-This is the person managing the venues staff and facility the night of your wedding, tip them $50.00

Your wedding planner-This person has assisted in planning your wedding, again this is optional, but the appropriate tip would be 10% of their total consulting bill.
